The First 6.5 HP Mud Motor
Introducing the first 208cc true surface drive mud motor. Light weight and powerful for those who love to hunt and fish the shallow back waters.
At Copperhead we take our customers seriously and put service first and foremost. Take a look at the videos and keep coming back to see more.
We are open for business with units in stock and ready to ship. We look forward to meeting you.
Dear Sir,
Would it be possible to purchase your Surface Drive with a Briggs and Stratton “Animal” Engine???
If so how would it affect the price and lower unit warranty ? Could the fact that the engine it self has no warranty affect your warranty ?
Thank you,
Eric Skinner
I’ve had my 6.5 hp motor for nearly 8 months now and have to say that while I think this is a good product, I’m not getting anywhere near the speeds I expected. I originally ran this on a 1436 riveted jon which weighed about 145 lbs empty. When I ran it by myself, unloaded, I averaged about 13.5 mph. The best I ever saw was just shy of 15 mph by myself in very shallow water, nowhere near the 18-20 mph they advertise in their videos. Gil was surprised I didn’t get more speed and thought I should be getting close to 20 mph with that setup.
I recently got a new 1432 jon boat that only weighs in at 100 lbs thinking the lighter weight would make a noticable difference but it did not. I’ve tried setting the trim all over the place but still only get around 13.5 mph so I’m a bit disappointed in the top speed.
Having said all that, I will say getting 2 mph per horsepower is actually a pretty good ratio for that small a motor, and Gil worked with me on the speed issue as best he could. The customer service I would rate as top notch and that means as much to me as about anything so overall I’d have to say I’m happy with this motor and company.
Hi Steve,
Just found this post, and we need to make this motor work for you. You really should be getting 20 mph! Give me a call, I want you to try a different prop.
